In 2009, Dr. Nathaniel Frank published Unfriendly Fire: How the Gay Ban Undermines the Military and Weakens America. The book, which is considered the definitive analysis of “don’t ask, don’t tell,” draws on decades of research and hundreds of interviews with policymakers, government officials, academics and service members, to illustrate the costs of the gay ban, and its release attracted widespread attention and significant media coverage. Dr. Frank served as a Palm Center researcher, strategist, and writer for more than 20 years.
