Two retired Admirals have published an op-ed in Military Times in which they argue that delaying the repeal of the ban on transgender accessions would amount to a return of “don’t ask, don’t tell,” in that transgender applicants would be forced to lie in order to serve in the military. Retired Rear Admirals Michael Smith and Alan M. Steinman urge Pentagon opponents to stop using discredited arguments from the “don’t ask, don’t tell” era to justify continuing the ban.
